Warren Roos, age 92 of Chadron, passed away September 28, 2016, in his home at Prairie Pines Lodge. Warren was born on February 8, 1924, in Omaha, NE. He lived with his mother, Sylva, and brother, Jack, in the Merriman, NE area, until 1932, when Warren and his mother moved to Chadron so she could attend Chadron State Teacher's College. During his boyhood, he loved spending time with Jack on his grandparents' ranch near Merriman.
He graduated from Chadron High School in 1941. In the fall of 1949, Warren began working on the C&NW Railroad and worked for 40 years as a brakeman and conductor. He married Ruth C. Wirth on April 2,1956, and they raised their three children, Bob, Linda and Larry, in Chadron.
After retirement, Warren served on the Vestry of Grace Church and was a member of the Chadron Federal Credit Union and Senior Center boards, as well as being active at the Dawes County Museum. Warren enjoyed both ranching and working for the railroad, but the job he loved most was being a dad to his three children and a granddad to his four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; mother, Sylva Lecher; and brother, Jack Roos. He is survived by his children, Bob (Kathleen) of Lexington, NE; Linda (Steven Wallace) of Bloomington, IN; and Larry of Lincoln, NE; as well as his grandchildren, Jon (Carrie) Roos, Redondo Beach, CA; Josh (Liz) Roos, San Clemente, CA; Joel Roos, Lincoln, NE; Joy Roos, Lincoln, NE; and two great grandchildren.
