Virginia Mcgaughey

August 26, 2029 — July 10, 2015

Virginia Rose McGaughey (Britt) passed away on July 10, 2015, at her home near Gordon, Nebraska, where she still lived independently. Virginia was born on August 26, 1929, in Rushville, Nebraska, as the youngest of three children born to Dell and Henrietta Britt. She was raised on the family ranch on Pine Creek, south of Rushville. A graduate of Rushville High School, Virginia taught school for a year before marrying Robert R. McGaughey on September 17, 1948. They made their home on the farm three miles north of Gordon, where Virginia lived for the next 67 years. She often commented that she was the third hand on the farm, but her family and friends all knew that both of her hands - and sometimes even her feet- were busy with farm business. Over the course of her life, Virginia was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Gordon, the Presbyterian Women's Association, Mount Pleasant Club and Community, Gordon Senior Center, Legion Auxiliary and 4-H. Virginia loved gardening (and sharing the spoils of her garden), fishing and boating and traveling in the motorhome throughout the country. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed getting together with friends - whether playing cards, having coffee, or just visiting. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Melvin and Joe, nephew Wayne and her husband, Blondie. Virginia is survived by children Betty (Ken) Hoeschen of Hastings, MN; Ken (Marlene) of Broken Bow, NE; and Harold (Wendy) of Missoula, MT along with grandchildren Mindy (Jeff), Robyn (Pete) and Amy; John (Stephanie), Will (Anita), Josie (Travis), Jenny (Clay) and Clint; Everett and Yvonne, 13 ½_ great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other extended family. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at 10am at the First Presbyterian Church of Gordon with burial at the Gordon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the First Presbyterian Church of Gordon or the Gordon Senior Center and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366, Gordon, NE 69343.
