Virginia Ann Jones Obituary
Virginia Ann Jones, age 95, passed away peacefully at Keystone Retirement Home in Omaha, NE on February 19, 2024.
Virginia was born December 29, 1928, to parents Iverene and Ray Kane in Jackson, IL. After graduating high school and technical college, Virginia moved to Hastings, NE where she met and married Jerry Jones. They moved to Chadron, NE in 1966 and over the next thirty years, raised their family of five children and many dogs.
Virginia completed her master’s degree at Chadron State College and then began a long and fulfilling career as an elementary school teacher in the Chadron Public School System. She touched many lives. She was immensely proud of the fact that three generations of her family graduated from Chadron State College, and she supported the college as an alum for many years.
Virginia enjoyed playing bridge and was very engaged in the Chadron Methodist Church. She was also an avid Nebraska Cornhusker and Denver Bronco fan and always had a book or crossword puzzle close at hand. She also loved her Pomeranian dogs. She spent many years with her significant other Jack Carnahan who meant the world to her.
Virginia was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy and brother Richard and her daughter in laws Christine Jones and Kelly Jones. She was also preceded in death by her ex-husband Jerry Jones and significant other Jack Carnahan.
Virginia will be missed and is survived by her five children: Bruce Jones (Christine-deceased), Rae Jones (Gillis), Doug Jones (Deb), Kevin Jones (Kelly-deceased) and Mardi Whitley (James). Also survived by her grandchildren Jenni Peyton (John), Tony Jones (Jessica), Chris Jones (Janet), Will Jones (Annamae), Robert Jones, Maggie Jones-Baumfauk (Ricky), Adam Lowry (Aubrey), Jeremy Lowry (Lauren) and Mathew Lowry. She also had nine great grandchildren.
Services will be held at Chamberlain’s mortuary June 14, 2024, at 2:00.
