Vic Nissen

Victor Eugene Nissen died October 7, 2014 at Pioneer Manor in Hay Springs, with family at his side. He was 90 years old. Vic was born June 12, 1924 in Hay Springs to Peter and Sara (Hermansen) Nissen. He attended grade school at District 93, and graduated from high school at Hay Springs in 1942. He served in the Army in post WW2 Germany, and was stationed at Bremen. Following his return from the service, he earned a degree from Grand View College in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1950, he married Della Vybiral, and they had two daughters together, Jane and JoElla. They lived on Mirage Flats for several years, where Vic farmed and drove a milk truck. Then they moved to Chadron, where Vic was the executive director of the Dawes County ASCS for many years. He married Agnes Deines in 1968, and relocated to Rapid City, SD where he was an insurance agent. He married Darlene Fernau in 1986, and moved back to Mirage Flats, where they remained until 2002, and then moved to Chadron. Vic entered Pioneer Manor in 2011, where he received tender loving care until his death. Vic was a faithful lifelong member of St. Peters Lutheran Church. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, was a pilot and enjoyed flying his own airplanes, was a square dance caller, and enjoyed traveling, camping, hunting, and especially spending time with family and friends. Vic is survived by his wife Darlene of Chadron, sister Rosalie Ransdell of Great Falls, MT, daughters Jane Grant and JoElla (Scott) Vejraska of Mirage Flats, grandsons Heath (Terra) Vejraska of Papillion, NE, Cole Vejraska of Mirage Flats, Tyler Grant of Fort Worth, TX, and two great grandchildren, Karsyn and Jack Vejraska of Papillion, NE. He also leaves two step sons, Steve (Connie) Fernau of Atkinson, NE, and Scott (Rebecca) Fernau of Chadron, along with their families, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family members, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brother Aaron, and step son Stan. A memorial has been established for St. Peters Lutheran Church.
