Vesta Theresa Tibbitts Soderlin Obituary Vesta Theresa Tibbitts Soderlin, 92 years 8 months, passed away at Bennett County Hospital August 10, 2014. She was born at Conotia, South Dakota, north of Interior, December 11, 1921, to Tom and Florence Tibbitts. Vesta attended school at Churn Ranch, then Holy Rosary Mission at Pine Ridge and St. Francis Mission in St. Francis, SD. Later years boarded school at Mission, SD. Vesta was married to Robert C. Soderlin and to this union 8 children were born: Gerry Lee, Tommy Lou (deceased), Robert, Sandra, Charles, Dianna, David and Kenneth. Vesta raised all 7 of her children while operating Vesta Steakhouse for 38 years, reitiring in 1990. She was known for her baking of cinnamon rolls, raised donuts, caramels, Indian tacos, pies and Home-style Cooking. Upon her retirement, Vesta went to work for various ranchers as a cook where she enjoyed being back on a ranch. Vesta was a member of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary Post #240 and Bennett County Community Action. She is preceded in death by her parents, (Tom and Florence Tibbitts), son (Tommy Lou), grandson (Tracy Marshall), son-in-law (Dick Marshall), great granddaughter (Miranda Marshall), and sisters (Deloris and Thelma). Vesta is survived by her children: Gerry Lee Marshall of Batesland, SD, Robert (Linda) Soderlin of Blackhawk, SD, Sandra (Larry) Grieben of Martin, SD, Charles (Chuck) Soderlin of Martin, SD, Dianna (Rodney) Anderson of Martin, SD, David (Judy) Soderlin of Martin, SD and Kenny (Rhonda) Soderlin of Martin, SD, her siblings: Devona Marshall of Mission, SD, Thomas (Linda) Tibbitts of Allen, SD, Phyliss Fravel of Mission Ridge, SD and Francis (Brian) Bradford of Newcastle, WY. Grandchildren: James Dean (Cosette) Marshall, Debra (Larry) Baxter, Rick (Theresa) Marshall, Jody (Ryan) Postall, Christy (Louis) Norris, Brent (Kris) Soderlin, Ryan (Barbara) Soderlin, Felica (Quinton) Varva, Stacia Soderlin, Douglas Simmons, Dwight (Bill) Simmons, Darcy (Tim) Simmons, Delinda (Jerry) Simmons, Kimberly (Bob) Fuchs, Ronald Marrs, Michael (Tammy) Marrs, Melody (Scottie) Sime, Matt (Amy) Soderlin, Mikel (Janie) Soderlin, Shannon (Aaron) Brown, Brett Soderlin, Brittney (Charlie) Soderlin, Shea Soderlin, Step grandchildren: Ryan, Ramey, Andrea, Leslie, & families, 61 great grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, Special Little Friend Charlie Fresquez, & Special Friends Darlene Dekay and Deloris Kment. Rosary service was held Thursday August 14, 2014, 7:30 pm at Out Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Funeral Services were held Friday August 15, 2014, 10:00 AM at the American Legion Auditorium, Martin, SD, Father Matthew Fallgren officiating. Burial was held in the Gordon Cemetery, Gordon, NE. Pallbearers were grandsons; James Dean Marshall, Brent Soderlin, Douglas Simmons, Ronald Marrs, Matthew Soderlin and Brett Soderlin. Honorary Pallbearers were all grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, family and friends.
