Vern Roy Landreth, 80, of rural Gordon passed away on Monday January 7, 2019, at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs, NE.
He was born January 30, 1938 at home north of Hay Springs to Alva and Eva (Pollen) Landreth. He spent the first five years of his life living north of Hay Springs before moving with his family to the farm northwest of Rushville, NE.
Vern served as a cook in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963. He spent time in Korea in 1962 and 1963 and was Honorably Discharged on August 31, 1967.
On August 20, 1967 Vern was united in marriage to Earline Post in Clinton, NE. To this union three children were born, John, Donald and Janet.
He worked many different jobs around the Rushville area. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and taking care of kids, and working with horses and cattle. He also liked playing cards, dancing and taking pictures of unsuspecting people.
He is survived by his three children, John, Donald (Holly) and Janet, four grandkids; Lindsay (Kris Jenks), Roy (Alisha Simmants), Calvin and Shaleen and one great grandson Hunter Lee Landreth. He is also survived by his one brother Albert (Evelyn) Landreth, one sister Grace (Duane) Cerny, brothers-in-law Levi Blair, Bill Austin, LeRoy Post and sisters-in-law May Landreth, Bertha Landreth, LeArdis Koellerneier and Barb (Terry) Winther and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by wife Earline, parents Alva and Eva Landreth, brothers Lloyd and Floyd, sisters Thelma Walker, Barbara Krotz, and Ethel Blair, and brothers-in-law Bob Walker and Charlie Krotz.
Funeral services will be held Friday January 11, 2019, 2:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Gordon. Burial with Military Honors will be held in Fairview Cemetery, Rusvhille, NE. A memorial has been established and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366 Gordon, NE 69343.
