Verda Zerbe

Verda Mae (Perkins) Zerbe, age 75, passed away on August 22, 2015 at the Ponderosa Villa in Crawford, Nebraska after a long battle with pancreatic Cancer. Verda was born on February 9, 1940 in Lewellen, Nebraska to Floyd and Wilma Perkins and lived most of her life in the country with her siblings and parents. She enjoyed helping her Dad doing chores, riding horses, and working cattle. Verda had several jobs in the Chadron area. Her favorite was being a Foster Grandparent at the Northwest Community Head Start where the children adored her. They called her "Grandma" and loved to sit on her lap while she read to them. Verda was very passionate about her church and had a wonderful church family. She will be remembered for her love of children and living her life in Christ. Verda's beloved little dog, Snowball, was like the child she never had. Verda is survived by four sisters: Violet (Robert) Lembke of Dunlap, Nebraska, Anne (Larry) Canaday of Norton, Kansas, Bonnie (Carl) Hald of Chadron, Nebraska and Dixie (Gary) Bowker of Denver, Colorado and two brothers Sam Perkins of Sherman, Texas and Ron (Jean) Perkins of McCook, Nebraska and 13 nieces, 5 nephews, and several great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Wilma Perkins, her brother, Floyd, and sister, Dorothy. Memorial services will be held on September 4, 2015 at 3:00 PM at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron with Pastor Jim Nichols and Pastor Mark Magnusson officiating.
