Tom Emick

Thomas Glen Emick was born August 18, 1952 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to William W. Emick & Helen I. Emick (Wood).
Tom passed away in the early morning of January 26th, 2018 peacefully and with his family by his side.
Tom lived in many places including Lawrence Kansas and Riverton Wyoming before settling in Chadron in 1968. He graduated from Chadron High School in 1970 and attended Chadron State College briefly. He was very active in boy scouts and was on the swim team.
He married Pam Claussen June 30th,1973. They welcomed their first daughter, Lisa Ann in 1976 and their second daughter Tara Lyn in 1979. His family was his greatest source of accomplishment and pride. The births of his 3 grandchildren was by far the proudest moment of his life. He always felt so lucky that his children and grandchildren lived in Chadron. He never missed a school activity, concert or birthday party. He was blessed to have his family close all his life.
He started his lifelong career with the City of Chadron in December 1973. He worked for the water department for over 40 years when he finally retired in October 2016. His dedication to the City of Chadron was without hesitation. Many fishing trips and family gatherings were interrupted by broken water mains or having to run the backhoe for one reason or another. He was truly the master of his trade and even after retirement his advice was sought by some.
His true passion in life was fishing. He spent countless hours on the lake. He taught his children to tie fishing knots, how to handle fish (even the ones with teeth) and how to be safe on the water. He was a very competitive fisherman but at the end of the day it was the time spent with his family and friends doing what he loved to do that was worth more than catching the biggest fish that day.
Tom was a compassionate, generous, loving and understanding husband, father, coworker and friend to so many. He will be missed but never forgotten.
He was preceded in death by his parents William W. & Helen I. Emick and mother in law Jake Claussen.

His children: Lisa & Victor Guajardo, Tara & Richard Bates
His Grandchildren: Kia, Jacee and RJ
Siblings: Paul Emick of Chadron, Lois & Jim Fauerbach of Emporia, Kansas and Patricia Emick & Mark Leppert of Kansas City, Missouri.
Father in law: John Claussen of Chadron
Brother in law: Curt Claussen of Chadron
