Stanley Smith Hardin was born August 25, 1922, at the Adams Farm, 10 miles northwest of Gordon to Harold 'Harley' and Nellie Hardin. He was baptized in April of 1965. He passed away October 7, 2015, at the Gordon Memorial Hospital. He went to school four miles northwest of the farm at District 94, and went through the 4th grade. On March 1, 1935, his folks moved on his grandfather and grandmother's farm, 4 �½_ miles west of Gordon. He finished the 4th grade there and 7 �½_ years at Pleasant Hill School, 5 miles west of Gordon, then �½_ year at the Gordon High School in Gordon. Then he went on the farm with his father and farmed the place until 1947. George, Stanley's brother, came home from the Army and took over the farm. Stanley then began to work for the public. Stanley's first job was putting up steel buildings for Mullin Brothers. He then went to work for Messenger & Milburn in Gordon and Cannon Brothers in Scottsbluff, NE. Stanley worked for Robert Weimer in South Dakota and 5 to 6 other wheat farmers. Then he worked mixing mud and plaster and stuccoed houses. Stanley went to see his �½_ brother in Oregon and went to California and worked on a vegetable and rice farm, then came home and worked at carpentry. He painted and trimmed trees. Stanley's mother passed away on May 4, 1978. He then went to work with the maintenance department at the Gothenburg Junior High School in Gothenburg, Nebraska, for 8 years. Stanley retired and came home in 1986, where he has been mowing lawns ever since. Stanley is preceded in death by his parents, all of his brothers, Clifford Charles Hardin, Lloyd Isaac Hardin, William Scott Hardin, George H. Hardin, Melvin Leslie Hardin, Robert H. Hardin, and a �½_ brother Raymond Henry. He is survived by many nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law Clara Hardin Reutter of Gordon, NE, and Joan Hardin of Highland Ranch, CO.
