Stanley Bishop Jr.

December 3, 1953 — October 31, 2016

Stanley (Buzz) Bishop Jr.
Stanley Arthur Bishop Jr. was born at home to Stanley and Doris (Rusk) Bishop, at Gordon, Nebraska on December 3, 1953. He joined an older brother Jim and two older sisters; Julie and Mina. Later Rena, Dean, John, George, Laura and David joined the family.
Buzz as he was called, grew up on farms/ranches in the Rushville and Gordon area where his dad was employed. Favorite memories were living on the Cedar Hill Mink Farm south of Rushville from 1959 - 1967. When his dad and older brother worked in Martin farming, Buzz was left as man of the house. He had three sisters that he loved to be mischievous to. The girls dug a fence post hole and Buzz would climb in it and they would bury him, but he would always dig himself out. The girls remembered dad using the end of the shovel to tamp the dirt, so they tried this and this time Buzz wasn't able to dig out. His mom was 8+ months pregnant and had to call the fire department to get him out. There were no more digging holes and burying Buzz.
The family moved to town in 1967 where his dad was employed at the Chevrolet garage. Buzz loved to tinker and tear things apart, sometimes not being able to put them back together. In 1971 Buzz joined the Army and was stationed numerous places in the states, and in Italy and Germany. He was in communications. On March 11, 1974, Buzz and Sandra Taylor were married in Martin, SD, they would later divorce. In 1976 their first child was born; a daughter Joann and later a stillborn son Michael. In 1991 he was honorably discharged from the Army after 20 years of service. During his 20 years of service he was awarded the Army Service Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal (6th), National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Professional Development Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and a Sharp-Shooter Badge. They then settled in Schuyler, NE. Buzz was employed at Dale's Electronics where he continued to tinker until his retirement. He enjoyed retirement and liked a good game of horseshoes.
He is survived by his daughter Joann (Alan) Landreth and three grandsons; Tony, Steven and Shawn. He is also survived by his 9 siblings; Jim Bishop of Coal Strip, MT, Julie (John) Krotz of Rushville, NE, Mina (Malcolm) White of Glenn Heights, TX, Rena (Wayne) Krotz of Rushville, Dean (Merry) Bishop of Buffalo, WY, John (Ila) Bishop of Cheyenne, WY, George (Hilary) Bishop of Minatare, NE, Laura Jones of Tulsa, OK, David Bishop of Denver, CO and numerous nieces and nephews.
Buzz passed away at Lincoln NE, and on 10/31/16 after a short battle with cancer. He was cared for during this time by Asera Care Hospice of Lincoln.
