Funeral services for Sandra K. Powell, 55, of Chadron, Nebraska will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron with Dr. Russ Seger officiating. Funeral services will also be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 10:00 AM at the Faith Lutheran Church in Hastings, Nebraska with Pastor Paul Dunbar officiating. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Sandra Powell passed away on March 22, 2015 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. She was born on March 29, 1959 in Hastings, Nebraska to Carroll and Beverly Powell. Sandra grew up in Hastings, Nebraska and graduated from Adams Central High School in 1977. She went on to receive and undergraduate degree from UNK and a Masters from UNO in 2000. Sandra Powell married Bruce Hoffman on October 2, 1993 where they lived in Hastings and Juniata, Nebraska. At that time, Sandra worked for the City of Hastings. In 2000, the couple relocated to Springfield, Nebraska where she was the City Administrator of Springfield. Sandra and Bruce then relocated to Chadron, Nebraska in 2007, where Sandra became the City Manager. In 2001, Sandra started working at the Nebraska Northwestern Railroad as the Business Manager. In 2001, Sandra and Bruce opened a successful Bed and Breakfast called the Trunk Butte Ranch House. Sandra served two terms as the President of the Hastings League Women Voters, as well as a member of the board of directors for the Nebraska League of Women Voters. She also served one term on the United States League of Women Voters. Sandra was a member of Nebraska Horse Council, as well as a volunteer for Ride the Ridge. There are a few personal attributes of many that Sandra Powell did in her 55 years of life. Sandra enjoyed crocheting, riding and working with horses. Sandra also found enjoyment in motorcycle riding, as well as spending time with her family members. Survivors include her husband Bruce A. Hoffman of Chadron, parents Carroll "Mike" and Beverly Powell of Juniata, Nebraska; Father-in-law James R. Hoffman of Hastings, Nebraska; Brother Dennis and Mary Powell of Kennesaw, Nebraska; Sister Teresa Powell of Hastings, Nebraska; four nieces, one nephew, 2 great nieces and one great nephew. Sandra was preceded in death by her mother-in-law Norma J. Hoffman. A memorial has been established for the Chadron State Rodeo Club.
