Russel Reeves

Russel Dwain Reeves, 81, of Chadron, Nebraska died Tuesday, January 13, 2016, at the Chadron Community Hospital. Russel was born on September 23, 1934, in Hay Springs, Nebraska, to Harry Everett Reeves and Doris Jesse Mohler. As a young boy, he grew up south of Chadron until his folks purchased a farm by Beaver Wall. Upon graduating from Chadron High in 1953, he worked at the Farney Ranch, south of Rushville, Nebraska. Here is where he met Leada Mae Ball from Scribner, Nebraska. They were united in marriage on April 30th, 1955 in Chadron. Russel worked for Bill Lindeken, east of Chadron for 4 years, 1 year south of Hay Springs for Alfred Dean, and then for Glen Jackson south of Rushville. In 1965, Russel and Leada moved back to Chadron. Russel started working for the Department of Roads for the State of Nebraska as an equipment operator. There wasn't a piece of machinery he couldn't operate or work on. The one thing we all knew was he doesn't plow snow! He retired after 33 years of service in September 1998. Russel is survived by 3 children and their spouses Kenny and Tammy of Guernsey, Wyoming; Terri and Jim Fankhauser of Black Hawk, South Dakota; Everett and Missy of Belle Fourche, South Dakota. Eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. His Sister Merna Connelly of Torrington, Wyoming; Brother Melvin Reeves of Chadron, Nebraska. He is also survived by his special family at Groves Restruant. Russel is proceeded in death by his parents, brothers Ralph and Lawerence. Services will be held at Chamberlain Chapel on Saturday, January 23rd, 2016, at 2:00 PM with Dr. Russ Seger officiating. A memorial has been established for the Chadron Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Unit. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, Nebraska 69337.
