Roger W Young was born in Gordon, NE on April 16, 1948, to Wilbur and Theresa (Eichenburger) Young. He was the oldest of six children. Roger attended Mt. Pleasant country school north of Gordon through the eighth grade, then attended Gordon High School until graduation all the while helping the family on the farm.

He began his military obligation on April 16th, 1968, in Panama at the Panama Canal. During his military tour he received the National Defense Service Medal along with Expert Rifle M14 and Marksman Rifle M16 honors. After returning home he work at various ranch jobs and Scotts Manufacturing until 1974. He returned to ranching at the McGinley where he remained for 25 years. During his time at the McGinley he met the love of his life, Frances Dobry. Who was also employed at the ranch. They were Married September 28th, 1991, and with this union Roger gained a stepdaughter Sabrina. They made their home at the McGinley until the sale of the ranch in 1999.

They moved to Gordon where he was employed at Farmer's Coop and Modern Farm as a truck driver until his retirement. He enjoyed being a volunteer firefighter and a member of the Gordon American Legion club. His hobbies included braiding leather, hunting, and fishing.

Roger is preceded in death by his parents Wilbur and Theresa Young, and his wife Frances.

Survivors include his sisters Evelyn Thornbrugh, Marilyn Edwards, and Margaret Hinkley, brothers James and Douglas Young, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

A Memorial has been established for the Gordon volunteer Fire Department.
