Rodney E Bailey
December 7, 1945 – March 24, 2025
Rodney Bailey was born in Rushville, NE on December 7, 1945. He was 2nd child of three children born to Ira and Orabelle Bailey. Rod passed away on March 24, 2025, in San Antonio TX, where he went to spend his time with a portion of his family.
Rodney was Nebraskan until December 2024, when he decided he wanted sun and not snow and became a Texan! Rod grew up in Gordon NE, where he met and married Carol Winters. Together they had 4 wonderful kids. Rod and Carol later divorced, but over the years remained friends. Rod worked several jobs over the course of the years, but the job he held until he retired was at Swann’s, aka The Solid Waste Collection Site in Gordon. He started work there in 2007 and left in Dec 2024. Rod was always such a positive person, which made it fun to go and get rid of your unused items as you knew the conversation and service would be just as great a feeling as using the garage again or a room as a room
Rod loved every chance he had to spend time with his family and friends. Whether it be his kids, grandkids, niece, nephews, aunts’, uncles, cousins or friends. Or playing with Maggie the dog and speaking to Janice daily on the phone.
If you knew Rod, you knew that if you said “do you want to play cards” you may have regretted it, because he could out play anyone anytime, just as his dad did. We promise you will tire long before he did. He enjoyed his old western shows, movies and game shows. He also enjoyed playing his Blackjack game, doing his crossword puzzles and word searches. There wasn’t much that he did not remember so it was hard to pull one over on him.
Rod is preceded in death by his father Ira, his mother Orabelle, his sister Leora and his brother Royce. He is survived by his son Donald, and his daughters Rhonda, Tina and Renee. Rod has 8 grandkids: Christopher, Aiden, David, Daniel, Tiffani, Austin, Kyle and Dylan. He has 11 great grandkids: Cooper, Riley, Gabriel, LaRea, Davon, Ethan, Warren, Kennedy, Peyton, Alieah, Anastasia. Along with a host of nieces and nephews to whom he loved each and everyone.
