Robert Dean Grant, age 87, of Whitney, Nebraska passed away on August 29th, 2021. Robert was born on August 24th, 1934 in Whitney, Nebraska to Lawrence (Bud) James Grant and Donna Lenore Grant. During Robert’s downtime, he enjoyed working alongside his Father Bud and Uncle Ralph, farming north of Whitney, Nebraska growing wheat. This is where Robert found his passion for farming and later in his career added cattle to his operation. Robert attended grade school in Whitney, Nebraska and graduated in 1952 from Chadron High School. Following high school, Robert served in the National Guard for eight years. This is where he learned his cooking skills, hot dogs and fried bologna. During that time, he also drove truck for Daniels Livestock and worked for the State of Nebraska Department of Roads. On September 6th, 1958, Robert married his high school sweetheart, Yvonne Gladys Tlustos, at the Methodist Church in Chadron, Nebraska. They were married for 63 years. Robert and Yvonne bought their first home in Whitney, Nebraska where they resided for nine years and had their first two children, Levi Scott Grant, and Bryan Lynn Grant. In January of 1967, they bought their forever ranch and moved two and half miles north of Whitney with his five head of cattle and some sheep, later adding pigs. This is where the couple went on to have their daughter Jodi Lee Grant (Reitz) and raise their family. While working fulltime as a rancher, he wore many hats that included serving on the Whitney Irrigation Board and the Rural Water Board. He found his true passion in ranching and dedicated his life to taking care of his black angus herd. Robert’s favorite days were spent sharing his passion for ranching with his children and grandchildren. Robert could always be found caring for his cattle, moving gates, and feeding his cats (and the local raccoons) until the very end. Robert Grant is survived by his wife, Yvonne Grant and children, Levi Grant and Mimi, Bryan and Dee Dee Grant, and Jodi and Shawn Reitz; grandchildren, Shawn and Julie Grant, Creighton and April Grant, Jessica Bisby, Christopher Lohman, Melissa Lohman, John Paul Bisby; AJ and Jeni Grant, Brooke and Aaron Olson; Tyler and Jazlyn Reitz, Dawson Reitz and Trysha; eleven and soon to be twelve great grandchildren; and his two sisters Barbara (Toni) Knopp, Betty (Mitzy) and husband John Robbins.
