Rickey Donald Cerny, 68, of Gordon died Friday, February 17, 2017 at his home surrounded
by his loving family.
He was born June 18, 1948, in Gordon Nebraska to Fred and Alma Cerny. He was raised in
Rushville and graduated from Rushville High School. He went on to school at Milford,
Nebraska and received his Associates of Applied Arts Degree in Auto Body Technology from
Nebraska Vocational Technical School in 1969.
On September 28th, 1968, he married the love of his life, Colleen Spencer in Lewellen,
Nebraska. The couple made their home in Clinton Nebraska. He worked as a fabricator
at Scott Manufacturers for well over 50 years. He was an active member of Northwest Vintage
Car Club. He was a Hunter Safety Instructor for 40+ years and coached the Junior Rifle
Club in Rushville. He was also active in the Northwest Nebraska Rod & Gun Club in Chadron.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, and in his younger years he raced hobby stock.
He took great pleasure in spending time with his family, and his grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Survivors include his wife Colleen, Clinton, NE; three daughters, Delorus (Mark) Limmer,
Wentworth, SD; Merrie Gehrt, Gordon, NE; Terrie (Jacci) Cerny, Browning, MT; a son Fran
(Tara) Cerny, Grand Junction, CO; a brother Dell (Chyrel) Cerny, Arnold, NE.
He had 7 grandchildren; Megan (Jeff) Fair, Wentworth,SD; Ryan (Cheriee) Gehrt, Gordon,
NE; Melinda Kookier and fiancee Jon Olinger, Madison, SD; Matthew Kookier, Wentworth, SD;
Jeffrey Gehrt, Gordon, NE; Amber and Wyatt Cerny, Grand Junction, CO.
Great-grandchildren Zaylee Gehrt; Urijah, Leighton, and Aubrie Fair. Rickey is also
survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, brother Roger Cerny, and sister Ello Dee Finkey.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM Thursday February 23, 2017 at Chamberlain-Pier in Gordon.
Memorial Service will be held at 10AM Friday February 24, 2017 at Grace Lutheran Church
with the Reverend Travis Sherman officiating. The family will have a private burial at
Amity Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
