Phyllis Romaine (Sandoz) Macumber was born December 29, 1940, to Andrew and Dorothy (Hoos) Sandoz in Rushville NE. She passed away June 15th, 2022, at Pioneer Nursing Home in Hay Springs NE.
Phyllis grew up on Pine Creek south of Rushville, NE, and attended rural school in Sheridan County.
On October 18, 1957, she married Donald Macumber. To this union 6 boys were born Donald Jr, James, Gregory, Quentin, Marvin, and Douglas.
Donald and Phyllis began their married life in rural Sheridan County, moving then to Lander Wyoming. They returned to rural Sheridan County in 1961, where they spent the remainder of their life.
During her life Phyllis worked as a cook and bartender, for hay crews on local ranches, the Covered Wagon, the Hacienda, and Lazy River, all while instilling her hard work ethic, amazing cooking skills, and her love for the outdoors on her children and grandchildren.
Phyllis had a great love for gardening, canning, cooking and taking care of all her beloved pets. (Which were too numerous to count) She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Having been blessed to share in her life are her sons, Gregory Macumber, Gordon NE; Quentin (Cindy Kearns) Macumber, Newton Falls, OH; Marvin Macumber, Rushville NE, and Douglas (Mandy) Macumber, Redfield SD. Four grandchildren, Kirk (Amanda) Macumber, Port Orchard WA; Trevar Macumber North Platte, NE; Niki (Evan) Harrison, Mitchell, SD; and Kristi (Mark Phillips) Macumber, Redfield SD. Seven Great Grandchildren, Kiara, Kingston, Alorah and Kodin Macumber, Lexi Macumber, Colton Derrick, and Keegan Harrison. Two Nephews, Justin (Trish) Sandoz, and Marlin Sandoz.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Dorothy Sandoz, sons James and Donald Jr, Husband of 58 years Donald, and brother Marvin Sandoz.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 23, 2022, 2:00pm at the Clinton United Methodist Church, Clinton, NE. Burial will be held in Mt. Hope Cemetery, south of Gordon, NE. A memorial has been established for the Rushville Volunteer Rescue Unit, and donations may be sent to Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366, Gordon, NE 69343.
