Nguyet M. (Moon) Stivers (nee Nguyen) was born in Sóc Trăng, French Indochina (South Vietnam) on February 25, 1936. Moon grew up in Saigon, where she received Catholic schooling from primary through post-graduate school. She earned a law degree and was a practicing attorney in the 1960's.
Moon was married to Willard “Bill” Stivers until his death in 1980. Bill was the Hospital Administrator at Crawford Community Memorial Hospital. The family moved to Crawford in 1978, having previously lived in La Junta and Denver, Colorado, having relocated to the United States after the fall of Saigon.
After the death of her husband Bill, Moon remained in Crawford, raising her only child Chris who graduated from CHS in 1992.
Moon died on the weekend of November 9th. She is survived by her son: Christian Stivers; daughter-in-law: Amy Stivers; grandchildren: Kaleigh, Brendan, Tristan, and Aiden Stivers; one living brother in Vietnam; and by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Moon's funeral will be at 1 PM on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Chamberlain Chapel in Crawford, Nebraska. She will be laid to rest at Crawford City Cemetery, next to her husband Bill. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Crawford Public Transportation in her memory.
