Mayebelle Geraldine Sterns Hooper, 91, of North Platte Nebraska went home to be with our Lord and Savior on March 6, 2018.
She was born January 18, 1927, in Hyannis Nebraska to Floyd W. "Hap" Sterns and Gertrude Mae Kline Sterns. Mayebelle attended Hyannis High School and graduated in 1945 and began teaching rural schools in the area. In May 1982 she received her Bachelor degree from Chadron State College. She continued to teach rural schools in and around Rushville until 1988 when she retired.
On June 20, 1948 she married Noelin Hooper in Alliance Nebraska. They lived on the Hooper Ranch until Mayebelle moved to Rushville.
Mayebelle had her ups and downs but in her heart, she was a woman devoted to the Lord. She is survived by missionaries far and wide, and her legacy for the gospel will live on. She leaves this world having lived a life worthy of celebration. Mayebelle loved to travel, loved her church, and staying in touch with all of her family and friends.
Survivors include three sons and 2 daughters, Morgan and Nancy of Chester, New Hampshire, Lyndon of Lakeside, Nebraska, Holly and Randy McCoy of North Platte, Nebraska, Alan of Elwood, Nebraska, and Vanessa and Dwayne Mays of Ogallala, Nebraska. 11 Grandchildren and 19 Great-Grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home in Gordon, Nebraska.
The family suggests memorials to the Gordon Head Start for the children programs and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366 Gordon, NE 69343.
