Max met the Lord on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at ChadronCommunityHospital. Surrounded by loving family, he departed with a smile on his face as he met his wife and daughter.
Max was born in Lusk, WY on July 8, 1923 to Roy Porter and Florence Bannon. As a grade school and high school student, he delivered newspapers, delivered milk, worked in a movie theater, grocery store, and bakery prior to going into the Navy and working at FortRobinson. As an adult, he ran the Standard Oil Bulk Truck and owned and operated Saddle Rock Bowling Alley.
On January 17, 1947, he married Betty Ruffing in Crawford, NE. Betty and Max raised their six children and lived their life in Crawford.
Max was a member of St John's Catholic Church, the Lions Club, a charter member of the Eagles, Chamber of Commerce, Crawford Sand golf course and Legend Buttes golf course. He enjoyed gardening, taking care of his yard, decoratiing his house for Christmas, hunting, fishing, bowling, golfing, and camping, and he spent many hours as a Hamm radio operator talking with people all over the world. He had a great gift of gab. His family was his biggest hobby.
His survivors include children Jaci (Ray) Eschenbrenner of Longmont CO, Debbie Dout of Crawford NE, John (Cindy) Porter of Alliance, NE, David (Dawn) Porter of Denver CO, and Jeannie (Greg) Limbach of Kearney NE; son-in-law Dave Coxon; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, daughter Robin Coxon, sister Eileen Ellis, and brothers Sam and Beeb Porter.
