Max E. Harris was born to Donald and Ruth (Feeser) Harris October 2, 1928, in North Platte, Nebraska. He graduated from Crawford High School in 1946, and The University of Nebraska in 1950. Max married Dorothy Lathrop at the Congregational Church in Crawford June 11, 1950. He was a member of Phi Rho Sigma Medical Fraternity in Omaha and graduated as a member of A.O.A, Honorary Medical Society from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, 1954. He interned in San Bernardino, CA, followed by 3 years of USAF service at Vance Air Force Base, Enid, Oklahoma and was discharged with the rank of Captain. His surgical residency training followed at Miller Hospital, St. Paul, Minnesota; V.A. Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD; and Vascular Surgury fellowship at Baylor University Hospital in Houston, TX. Max's Surgical Board Exams followed in New Orleans, Louisana. In 1964 he returned to St. Paul, Minnesota to join the surgical practice of Drs. Leven, Lannin & Tongen. During his years of practice, he was on the staff of several hospitals, serving as Chief of Staff at Midway Hospital and President of the St. Paul Surgical Society. He was also a member of the Minnesota Surgical Society, the American College of Surgeons, and the American Medical Association. Max eneded up retiring in 1990. He returned to Crawford, Nebraska where he resumed a vital interest in the community & retained a home in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was an active member of the Legend Buttes Golf Course, Eagles Club, PPDC & member of the Masonic Lodge. His survivors include Son, Scott Harris; twin daughters Luci Harris & Lori Pettit, grandchildren Kyle & Lisa Harris and Timothy W. Pettit; great grandson Caden Oliver; 2 brothers Todd (Cheryl) Harris and Dean (Carolyn) Harris of Alliance; and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife Dode, his parents, step-mother Inez Kamerzell, brothers Jack and Boyd. Memorials may be made to the Legend Buttes Golf Course, 3440 US 20 Crawford, NE 69339.
