Marty Hugen

February 1, 1962 — June 21, 2018

Marty Joe Hugen took to the sky June 21, 2018, freeing his soul and ending his final journey with cancer. He was born February 1st, 1962 in Gordon, NE to Bennie and Norma (Deckert) Hugen. He was preceded in death by parents Bennie and Donna Hugen and Steve Bestgen; his grandparents, sister-in-law Debra Hugen and two special friends; Cindy and Arlene.

Marty enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1979. He spent most his life in the Sandhills of Western Nebraska and the Black Hills of South Dakota. He was an avid reader, nature lover, rock- fossil hunter, and an artist of many mediums. He enjoyed friends, cold beer, and good conversation.

He is survived by his mother, Norma Bestgen of Sturgis, SD; siblings Cindy Hugen of Fort Collins, CO, Jerry (Sue) Hugen of Wellington, CO, Connie (Danny) Rous of Martin, SD, Bryan (Donnell) Hugen of Gordon, NE, Lori (Mike) Rodenz of Sturgis, SD, and Amanda (Joe) Jaksha of Johnstown, CO whom Marty considered a sister more than a niece. Lifelong friend Dale (Vickie) Sherman of Sturgis, SD, Uncle Don (Pat) Deckert of Porcupine, SD, Aunt Carol (Vern) Sager of Gordon, NE; numerous cousins, seven nieces and nephews, and 11 great nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 11am on Monday, July 2, 2018 at Lavaca Cemetery near Gordon, NE. A memorial has been established and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366 Gordon, NE 69343.
