Marilyn Lois Brown was born September 4, 1945, in Rushville, NE, to Gail and Lennis Brown. She was welcomed by an older brother Merritt and then joined 1 1/2 years later by a brother Curt. The family lived in Gordon, NE.
Marilyn started kindergarten in September of 1950 at the old school house. She graduated in May of 1963 from Gordon High School. That fall she and three of her classmates headed to Lincoln to attend Lincoln School of Commerce. But Marilyn had other ideas. She left after a couple of months and returned to Gordon to get married. Marilyn and Floyd Sager were married on Dec. 29, 1963, at the Methodist Church.
They were blessed with 3 children, Tracy, Wayne, and Tammy.
While Floyd was in the U S Navy they lived in Jacksonville, FL, and Chula Vista, CA. Floyd was sent to Vietnam, so Marilyn returned to Gordon and stayed with her parents. After his service in the military, the couple resided in Gordon permanently. Floyd passed away in 2007. Marilyn moved to Norfolk, NE in April of 2022 to be with her son Wayne & family until her death, on July 12, 2024. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at St. Joe’s Nursing Home after suffering from Leukemia.
Marilyn did childcare in her home for many years. When her children were all in school, she became the produce manager at Shald's Market. Following her employment at the grocery store, she was the Pump & Pantry manager until her retirement in September 2010.
Marilyn was a very kind and loving woman. Family and friends meant everything to her. You could always find everyone gathering at her home for the holidays to enjoy her delicious cooking. She was feisty, sassy, and had a wonderful sense of humor. Marilyn enjoyed playing cards and reading, excelled at crossword puzzles, and always had a great story or joke to tell.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Gail and Lennis Brown, her father and mother-in-law, Richard and Mildred Sager, her brother Merritt Brown, her sister-in-law Linda Brown and her husband Floyd Sager. She is survived by her brother Curt Brown of Hyannis, NE, her daughter Tracy Herrera of Alliance, NE, son Wayne (Janet) of Norfolk, NE and daughter Tammy (Cassey) Deisley of North Carolina, 7 grandchildren, Michael (Colleen) Fusselman, Destini Neher, Jordan, Kellan, and Kaden Sager and Wade and Brandon Deisley, 3 great-grandchildren Jade, Evie and Leo.
Visitation will be Friday, July 19th from 5-7 p.m. at Chamberlain Pier Funeral Home in Gordon, NE. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 20th at the Gordon Methodist Church, with burial services following at the Gordon Cemetery.
A memorial has been established and donations may be sent to Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366, Gordon, NE 69343.
