Maren Rous

January 2, 1942 — September 5, 2020

Maren G. Rous, 78, of Batesland, S.D., passed away at her home on September 5, 2020.

Maren was the New Year baby born January 2, 1942, in Gordon Nebraska, to Ray M. Crabb and Anna M. (Krell) Crabb.     After graduating from Gordon High School, she started working at Consumer Public Power.   On June 10th, 1962 she married Max B. Kruger.   Once she learned that they would be joined by baby her career, and bowling league, were side tracked due to traditional standards at that time.   This union was blessed with a daughter when Marie L. was born.

Maren worked at the Sheridan Dairy before working at the Gordon Elementary school, first as the Librarian and then in the principal’s office, where many of the students were able to bond with her whether it be for a band -aid or advice.    She later worked at the Gordon Clinic and then in Medical Records at the Gordon Hospital.

On January 27th, 1990 Maren married Steven Rous.   They made their home at Batesland S.D., and after a while she “retired” from work in town to be able to help more with farm wife duties.   She gardened, making the best pickled beets, helped in the tractor and many various things at the farm and community.

Her hobbies included cake decorating, she also taught cake decorating classes, painting ceramics, which she made for family and sold at craft shows.   Maren also took up quilting, she taught quilting classes and made quilts for her relatives and entered some in fairs where she won the viewer’s choice ribbon at the Sheridan County fair.  She had a passion for genealogy and has traced many generations back for her families.

Maren is survived by her husband Steven;  brother and sister-in-law, Lester and Corinne Crabb; daughter and son-in-law Marie and Dan Pershall; granddaughters Tia and Ami Pershall;  great-grandson Kaiser Pershall;  step-son Daniel McNare;  Brothers-in law and Sisters in law, Danny and Connie Rous;  Dennis and Mari Rous; Don and Ruth Kruger;  Donna Hotz; and Sterling Rust;   Nephews: Ray (Angela) Crabb, David (Jen) Crabb, Lucas (Tina) Rust,  Patrick (Alyssa) Rous, Sawyer (Jayme) Rous, Travis Rous, Derrick Rous, Alex Rous,  Don (Tammie) Kruger, Mark (Kay) Kruger, Steven (Vickie) Kruger, David (LaTisha) Kruger, Art (Darcy) Hotz; and Jim Hotz.   Nieces:  Anna Marie (Michael) Feliciano, Michelle (Jason) Ormiston, Rylee Rous, Laura Kicker and DeOnna (Drake) Weibel.

Maren was preceded in death by her sister Beverly Rust, husband Max Kruger and parents Ray and Anna Crabb.
