Lowell was born June 26, 1924 at Eagle, Nebraska to Fred and Rhoda Muenchau. Lowell had three brothers and one sister where they lived on a farm outside of Eagle. He helped on the farm until he graduated from Eagle HS in 1942 then was drafted into the Army in 1945.
After army life his primary occupation/career was working for Nebraska Dept of Roads. He started working for the Roads Department in Lincoln, Nebraska and then later was transferred to Western Nebraska. He became superintendent and worked for the department for over 40 years. It was in Rushville, Nebraska where he met Darlene Westlake his life-long wife/partner of 68 years.
Once again he moved to the country and along with his roads career he worked on his dream hobby farm where he and Darlene raised three children, Gary, Alan, and Lou Ann and various livestock and pets. Lowell love dogs and always had a dog companion. He loved to drive his tractor and especially his 4-wheeler. Loved to go check the cows and land and just to ride around admiring the wonderful landscape that he was so fortunately able to acquire.
Lowell retired from the Dept of Roads in 1989 and devoted full-time to the farm/ranch.
He hated to leave his home in the country but at age 90 he moved to Prairie Pines Assisted Living in Chadron where he lived for 2 years. He enjoyed it there, visiting with fellow residences and friends. He always had a smile and very few negative remarks. His only real complaint was that he wished he had a dog and to be able to ride his 4-wheeler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Rhoda Muenchau, wife Darlene and three brothers and one sister and grandson Anthony. He is survived by son Gary, Chadron, Barb Muenchau, Hot Springs, SD, grandson Christopher Muenchau, Chadron; son Alan Muenchau, Fairfax, Virginia; daughter Lou Ann Muenchau and Special Friend Kenneth Maika, Chadron; Grandchildren: Lowell T.
