Linda Mae Knote (1942-2014) Linda Mae (Nicks) Knote was born on July 13, 1942 in Clarksville, Texas (Red River County) in North East Texas. Linda was born to Thomas George and Lottie Mae (Marcum) Nicks. In her early life she lived on the family farm south of Avery, Texas and later moved to Petersburg in the Texas Panhandle, and then to Sherman, Texas north of Dallas. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. She graduated from high school in 1960. She majored in elementary education and accounting at Abilene, Christian University (College), in Abilene Texas. Linda met Darrel Knote in the summer of 1964, and they were married on December 18, 1964 in Sherman. Darrel & Linda made their home in Abilene, TX until moving to Rosebud, TX in 1966. Darrel & Linda worked with a number of churches in Texas and Wyoming before moving to Alliance, NE in 1974. Linda and Darrel's later years were spent in Chadron, NE, after moving there in 1994. She was a very supporting wife of a preacher, and very involved in evangelism. She was very involved in the business opportunities of the family, especially working with the children at Skateland of Chadron, which Linda & Darrel owned for a number of years. She was also very involved with the sewing machine business that they owned & operated. Later on she served as receptionist at Northwest Community Action Partnership for many years. Linda's great joy was taking care of her family, cooking special meals, and sharing her experiences with her granddaughters. She loved to sew, cook, and care for her family. She was a caring, loving mother and grandmother who always put others before herself. One of her delights was teaching children's Bible classes. Linda is survived by her husband Darrel; two sons: Thomas of Chadron, NE, and Wayne and wife Amanda, of Hemingford, NE; two granddaughters: Emily and Sara of Hemingford, NE; and numerous relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father T.G. Nicks and Mother Lottie Nicks. Linda passed away on September 30th at Crestview Care Center in Chadron following an extended battle from a malignant brain tumor. Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be held at Country Kitchen's large conference room in Chadron, NE at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11th. The inurnment will take place at a later date at the cemetery in Crawford, NE. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to In Search of the Lord's Way (a T.V. program teaching the Gospel of Christ), to the Chadron Church of Christ, or to Chadron Rescue Squad.
