Leslie Evert, 88 of Gordon, died December 24, 2018, at Gordon Countryside Care.

He was born July 29, 1930, in Torrington, Wyoming to Lewis and Nette (Hanks) Evert. As a young man his family homesteaded near Chimney Rock and Bayard, Nebraska. After serving in the Air Force during the Korean War, from 1951 to 1953, he moved to Gordon.

On a trip to Springview, NE, with his friend Ed Prentice, he met Annabelle Prentice. He and Annabelle were married in 1955. They had three children, Cindy, Linda and Craig. Les was an electrician for 50 years and owned Evert Electric, Inc. for over 45 years.

Les was a member of many organizations such as the American Legion Post #34, Arcana Masonic Lodge #195, achieved 33rd degree in Masonry, Big Sky Shrine Club, Order of Eastern Star and the United Methodist Church. He was very involved in the community and served as Mayor, on the City Council, the Volunteer Fire Department, the Economic Development Committee and was a member of the Gordon Airport Authority.

Les lived by his Christian values, served as a mentor to many and was always willing to help anyone, no matter the time of day or night.

He is survived by his wife Annabelle; daughter Cindy and husband Ken Christ and daughter-in-law Kathy Evert.

He was preceded in death by his son Craig; daughter Linda; sister Shirley (Evert) Lynn and his parents Lewis and Nette (Hanks) Evert.

The family suggests memorials to the United Methodist Church or the Shriners Hospitals for Children and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366 Gordon, NE 69343.
