Leo Pfister Obituary
Leo Edward Pfister, age 93, passed away Thursday, July 28 at Ponderosa Villa in Crawford.
Funeral mass will be Tuesday, August 2, at 10:30 a.m. at St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Crawford with Father Arul Inniaiah, Father Bernard Berger, and Father Tim Stoner officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Chadron at 1:00 p.m.
Leo was born January 21, 1923, on the Pfister homestead near Node, Wyoming, to Thomas and Francis (Seichter) Pfister. He attended country school in Node, Wyoming and graduated from Assumption Academy in Chadron. In 1952 he bought farm land north of Whitney, and on June 6, 1955 he married Edith Combs. Leo and Edith raised their two daughters and made the Whitney farm their home until moving to Ponderosa Villa together in 2010.
Leo raised registered Targhee sheep and was active in the breed. He was a founding member of the National Targhee Sheep Association and served in the Northwest Nebraska Sheep Improvement Association. As a longtime member of the Whitney community he served on the Whitney Irrigation District Board and helped establish Rural Water District #1. He was a kind, humble man of very deep faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife. He is survived by daughters Anne Hamar of Crawford, Cathy (Ron) Fuhs of Rochester, Minnesota, and grandsons Chris and Matt (Amy).
A memorial has been established for St John the Baptist Catholic Church and Crawford Fire and Rescue. Donations can be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.
