The gates of Heaven opened for Mrs. Lavonne Burrows Monday morning, June 19, 2017 with her family by her side.
Lavonne was born to Clifford Davis and Josephine Peters Davis June 5, 1938. She attended Rushville High School and received her teacher's certificate from Chadron State College.
On November 17, 1957 she married the love of her life, Bryan Burrows. To this union five children were born: Marlys, Carol, Alynn, Della, and Clifford.
The essence of Lavonne's life was exemplified in her love for her family, her garden, her church, and her service groups.
Lavonne carried on the tradition of her beloved family with a light touch of humor. Many friends and family can recall stories with a smile.
Numerous times Lavonne served as Immanuel Lutheran Church Women's ELCA president, Banner Community Extension Club president, and had the honor of being Worthy Matron for Eastern Star.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her mother and father-in-law, Hazel and Paul Burrows; brothers Melvin and Norman Davis; brothers-in-law Orvis West, Ed Burrows, and Gene Hupp; son-in-law Tim Skeen, and nephew Gary Davis. Left to remember her is her husband Bryan Burrows, sister Lois Sine, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: Marlys and Roy Fiscus - Brent and Jennifer Fiscus (Kenzie and Kayla), Ryan and Deanna Fiscus, Lauren and Casey Benner (Camden and Sawyer); Carol and Steve Elwood - Rachel Buettner, Aaron and Jamie Buettner (Kaitlyn and Ransom), Abigail Wellnitz, Nicholas and Kathryn Elwood; Alynn and BJ Peters - Bradley and Lacey Peters, Adam and Morgan Peters, Kyle Peters, and Kendra Peters; Della and (Tim Skeen) - Amanda Skeen, Alex Skeen, and Andrew Skeen; Clifford Burrows - Ashley Burrows; and several nieces and nephews.
None but those who have sat in the shadow of a great bereavement can justly weigh such a sorrow as this. This husband and children with a devotion few persons are capable of, their strength given sweetly, tenderly, to this precious mother and whose devotion never faltered could not detain her by the clasp of earthly life; but after the last word has been spoken, the last sign of recognition gone, a look of peace settled on her face which proclaimed victory, and they knew she was resting on a Mighty arm.
