Jane (Holmgren Publow) Skavdahl was born in Mitchell, Nebraska on June 22, 1929 and died at the Denver Hospice Center on July 20, 2016. She was the fifth child of seven born to Albert and Mary (Roland) Holmgren who were ranchers in Sioux County.
Jane graduated from Sioux County High School in 1947 and taught elementary school in rural Sioux County for several years before marrying Alvin Publow on August 5, 1950. Four Children, Dennis, Terry, Danny, and Nancy were born to that union. Unfortunately Alvin passed away on June 7, 1997.
On February 1, 2001, Jane married Howard Skavdahl in Couer de Lane, Idaho. They divided their time between Harrison, Grangeville, Idaho and Richmond, Washington.
Jane had many talents but most of all she was a loving wife and dedicated mother. Her cooking and baking was "par Excellence." Jane's cinnamon rolls were famous. She always made sure that her family and friends were well fed, even while being employed full time as a book keeper at Herren Brothers True Value Hardware for 31 years.
She worried about everyone being fed while laying on her bed in the hospital and when asked what she wanted to eat would say, "Oh, what do you want - you better order something for yourself." Jane also was an excellent seamstress, embroidering beautiful dish towels for friends and family. Later in life she still spent many hours at the cabin in Idaho embroidering while observing the numerous wildlife there.
Another passion of Jane's was traveling. She and Alvin had many trips in the Northern and Eastern states. Jane and Howard visited Norway where Howard's father was born. Jane was a member and contributor to the Harrison Memorial Methodist Church for 72 years.
She is survived by husband, Howard, two sisters, Arlene Schaefer of Harrison and Becky Smith, Mission, SD; Dennis (Wanda) of Aurora, CO, Terry (Roxanne) of Joplin, MO and Danny (Darlene) of Valentine, NE; daughter, Nancy of Overland Park, KS; step-sons Kirby (Connie) of Richland, WA, Bill (Susie) of Pullman, WA, Jon (Diane) of Stafford, VA; 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Jane was preceded in death by her first husband, Alvin Publow and siblings Alberta Richmond, Pat Holmgren, and MaryAnn Baack.
Jane will be sorely missed by her family and many friends for her outgoing personality, generosity, and love for all.
