Jane Darlene Logue, 77, passed away February 25, 2023, at the Crest View Care Center in Chadron, NE.
Jane was born April 17, 1945, in Portland, OR, to Verlin and Jenny (Benton) Alexander. She moved with her family to Hot Springs, SD, when she was a young child.
Jane and Joseph Henry (Joe) Logue were married on August 15, 1961, in Rapid City, SD, and made their home together near Oelrichs, SD, for over 61 years. Joe and Jane raised four children: Jean Marie [Logue] Wells, Katherine Rose (Katie) [Logue] Merdanian, Vincent James Logue, and Joseph Henry (Hank) Logue II.
Jane was a ranch wife extraordinaire who loved vegetable and flower gardening, sewing, raising chickens, and caring for milk and beef cows. She was an amazing cook, learning much from Joe’s mother and using ingredients grown on the ranch. Jane supplemented the family’s income by selling both eggs and poultry; and her small dairy operation supplied numerous customers with fresh milk, cream, and butter. She loved sharing her knowledge and taught friends and family to live a self-sufficient life. She was a professional trapper and longtime supporter of fur harvesting and was an active member of multiple regional organizations.
Jane was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband Joe; children Katie (Roy) Merdanian, Vince Logue, and Hank (Vanessa) Logue; grandchildren Brittany Smith, Meghan Logue, Joseph (Wendy) Logue, Matthew Logue, and John Logue; great-granddaughter Michelle Logue; sister Vicki (Butch) Ceplecha; and many nieces and nephews.
Jane was preceded in death by her daughter Jean Wells and brothers Larry, Thad, James, and William Alexander.
A memorial in honor of Jane has been established with the Western South Dakota Fur Harvesters, c/o Tuffy Halls, PO Box 25, Hot Springs, SD 57747.
