Ivy Avis

Iva (Ivy) Pearl Avis, age 77, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Gordon Memorial Hospital in Gordon, NE.

Ivy was born May 18, 1946, to Rolland and Pearl Shoop in South Dakota, before moving to Nebraska as a child with her family.

Ivy married Clarence Avis on June 8, 1962, in Rushville, Nebraska. To this union three children were born, the late LaRee Simants, Doug Avis of Scottsbluff, and Kristy Avis of Rushville.

Ivy lived in Virginia while Clarence was in the service, they returned to the Rushville/Gordon area in 1968. They also lived in Oshkosh for five years before returning to Rushville.

Throughout the years Ivy worked at City Bakery, ran an in-home daycare both in Oshkosh and Rushville, and later the Nebraska Land Motel.

Ivy enjoyed spending time with her family and her grandchildren, she was an amazing mother and grandmother, and friend to everyone she met. Ivy and Clarence were married for 53 years at the time he passed. The light of her life after losing Clarence was her granddaughter Miss Aubrey Danielle with whom she shared an amazing bond.

Ivy is survived by her son Doug, daughter Kristy, special niece Michele, son-in-law Larry Simants, grandchildren Alisha, Colby, and Aubrey. As well as sister Cindy (Scott) Kelley and brother Bob Shoop, and several nieces and nephews.

Ivy was preceded in death by her husband Clarence, daughter LaRee, her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Private family services will be held. A memorial has been established for the Rushville Rescue Unit and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366, Gordon, NE 69343.
