Inez Goodwin

June 29, 1929 — July 18, 2016

Inez Marie "Hicks" Goodwin, 87 years of age, resided at Cherry Hills Estates in Valentine, Nebraska since July 2011. She went to her heavenly home on July 18, 2016 at North Platte, Nebraska.

She was born June 29, 1929 to Ellis Roy & Dolores Dorothy (Wordeman) Hicks at the Swift Hospital in Martin, South Dakota.

At 5 years of age the family moved from the Sam Allen place to the Cherry place, both southwest of Martin, South Dakota. When Inez was 12 years of age her parents purchased the "White Horse Ranch", later known as Hicks' Dairy on Little White River south of Martin.

Inez graduated from Bennett County High School with the honor of being chosen Homecoming Warriors Princess of 1947.

She married the love of her life, Gerald Arthur Goodwin, October 23, 1948 at St. Katherine's Episcopal Church in Martin. To this union six daughters were born.

In 1955 the couple moved from the Martin area to the Bowring Ranch north of Merriman, Nebraska. Later they moved into Merriman where they resided until moving to Cherry Hills Estates.

By 1965 Gerald had taken a job at the Farmer's Co-op Grain Elevator in Merriman. Inez went to work at the Co-op after the youngest child entered school. She later retired from the Anchor Bank in Merriman. She was a member of the Home Extension Club, Order of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to play cards and spend time with family and friends.

Inez was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 64 years; a brother, Donald (Duck) Hicks; a daughter, Vonda Marie Mains; and a grandson, Justin Phillips.

Survivors include brothers Ellis Rae (Dorothy) Hicks, Ross (Marva) Hicks, Glenn (Berdella) Hicks; a sister Dorothy Bradford; daughters Linda (Leroy) Guptill, Gerry (Jack) Bermingham, Shirley Goodwin, Paula (Ron) Galloway and Kelli (Rod) Davis. Also, 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Services were held at the new American Legion in Martin, South Dakota on July 23, 2016, 10:00 AM, with interment taking place at Martin Community Cemetery, Martin.
