Helen E. Prosser, 90, of Crawford, Nebraska, passed away at the Chadron Community Hospital on September 15, 2015. Helen was born to Leslie Wayne and Anna Hazel Garrett Kenagy in College Springs, Iowa on April 30, 1925. The family moved to Nebraska, where Leslie found work on ranches and farms. During the late twenties and thru the early forties the family moved 15 times in 17 years. Schooling was a must for the children and getting to and from school was sometimes challenging. Helen boarded in Harrison during high school and graduated in 1943. Helen married Leonard Prosser on October 22, 1942 in Chadron. Leonard was called into the service in October and as they couldn't find a preacher in Crawford on such short notice, finally found a Justice of the Peace in Chadron. They lived on the family homestead in Sioux County until 1949, when they moved to Crawford. Leonard worked as a mechanic for Harry Pipel, an equipment dealer in Crawford. Helen was a stay at home mom with four children to raise Nancy, Emory, James, and David. She later worked as a bookkeeper for Bill Hudson (Hudson Auto). After the kids, were grown, Helen worked as the secretary for the Crawford Tribune thru several owners. Leonard passed away in !985 and Helen retired in the mid-1980s and traveled with brother Harry to different areas as well as taking exciting trips with sister Rosalie, sometimes taking a grandchild along with them on their adventures. Helen moved into Ponderosa Villa in 2014. Mourning her loss are her bridge playing ladies, sons Emory (Jean), James, and David (Sheila), 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leonard, daughter Nancy, brothers Harry, Bob, and Jack, and grandson Jason. ½½A memorial has been established for the Crawford Fire Department or the Ponderosa Villa.
