Helen M. Hicks-Zeman Helen Marie Hicks-Zeman, age 96, of Martin, SD passed away July 17, 2014, at the Bennett County Nursing Home in Martin. Helen Marie Petrik, the daughter of John and Mary (Hazuka) Petrik, was born September 6, 1917 in Lake Andes, SD. She married Elmer E. Hicks in September, 1939, he passed away in June, 1964. To this union four children were born. Helen married Anthony Zeman in August, 1971, he passed away in June, 1997. Helen was a homemaker most of her life. She also worked as a waitress and as a Nurses-Aide. She was a member of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Martin, SD, the Altar Society and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary She loved her family, church, the outdoors and working in her yard and garden. In her younger years she enjoyed embroidery and crocheting. Helen is survived by two sons and two daughters: Jim & (Donna) of Elizabeth, CO, Larry & (Donna) of Frontenac, KS, Connie & (Gary) Murphy of Olpe, KS and Debbie & (Harlan) Ottemann of Johnson Lake, NE, seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and several step-great grandchildren. Helen is also survived by one sister-in-law, Dorothy Petrik, and many nieces and nephews, several who were a very important part of her life, and by her many friends and care-givers at the Bennett County Nursing Home. Helen was also preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, four sisters, one daughter-in-law, one granddaughter and three step-great-grandchildren. Rosary services will be held Saturday, July 26, 2014, 9:00 AM, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Memorial services to follow at 10:00 AM, Father Matthew Fallgren officiating. Inurnment burial will be held in Martin Community Cemetery. Bennett County Funeral Services are in charge of arrangements.
