We announce with deep sorrow the passing of Gloria Marie Kumagai, who left us peacefully on December 7, 2024, at the age of 92, at Ponderosa Villa in Crawford, NE. Born on June 11, 1932 in Baltimore, MD to Charles and Anna Scheiner, Gloria's life was a testament to dedication and compassion. Family was Gloria's greatest treasure, a sentiment she shared during her last Thanksgiving. Preceded in death by her husband of 16 years, Mitch Kumagai, Gloria is survived by her six children: Wendy Moskowitz, Steve (Tammy) Viessman, Sue (Brian) Templeman, Mike (Beryl) Viessman, Tom Viessman, and Sandy (Doug) Amen. She was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren: Sonoma, Beth Anne, Ann, Grace, Natalie, Jennifer, Levi, Ethan, and Benjamin, and a great-grandmother to four: Gwen, Shepherd, Vera, and Amelia. Prior to moving to western Nebraska, Gloria lived in Lincoln, NE, where her children grew to adulthood. She was a Girl Scout leader there for many years and actively participated in the Nebraska State Fair, earning numerous blue ribbons for her Rhubarb Strawberry jam, a tradition she lovingly passed on to her children. Gloria earned her Master's Degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and dedicated over 40 years to her career as a nurse, where her passion for helping others was evident. Gloria enjoyed going to the Senior Center in Crawford and took blood presures there for many years. Her participation at the Dawes County Fair also highlighted her lifelong dedication to community service. A funeral service will be held on December 14, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Church, Crawford, NE. A Rosary will be said at 7:00 PM on December 13, 2024, at the same location. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crawford Volunteer Fire Department or Friends of Pets in Chadron, NE. Gloria will be remembered for her love of family, enthusiasm for State and County Fairs, devotion to her many pets over the years and for her passion for life in the Pine Ridge country of western Nebraska. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
