Gladys Beardt, 91 of Martin, SD, died Saturday October 28, 2017, at Fountain Springs Health Care in Rapid City, SD.

She was born March 9, 1926, in Avon, SD, to Henry and Clara Hahn. She graduated high school in Rapid City and worked in Rapid City for a short time. She then moved to Martin to help her dad on the farm.

On February 19, 1947 she married Henry Beardt and they lived on a farm west of Martin. In 1968 they moved off the farm to live in Martin. When her husband became ill, she took over his job as the custodian and grounds keeper at the Bennett County Court House. She worked very hard there for several years.

Her enjoyments in life were spending time with family and friends, going to coffee, visiting, and playing cards. She also loved to cook and crochet afghans for her family. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and Post #240 Auxiliary where she received a certificate for being a member for the past 57 years.

Survivors include one brother, one daughter, two sons, 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, mother and father and two brothers.

Services were held Friday, November 3, 2017, 10:00 AM, Our Redeemers Lutheran Church with burial in Martin Community Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and donations may be sent in care of Bennett County Funeral Service, PO Box 65, Martin, SD 57551.
