Gerald "Beef" Palmer
Gerald Don Palmer "Beef" passed away at The University of Colorado Hospital in Loveland, Colorado on January 17, 2019. He was born September 27, 1934 in Martin, South Dakota to Vernald and Charlotte (Chamberlain) Palmer-being an only child.
In his earlier days he enjoyed playing football and loved to hunt and fish.
After graduation he attended auctioneer school in Mason City, Iowa. He then went on to auction at various sale barns.
On August 24, 1957 he married Carol Ann Bettcher of Igloo, South Dakota. They made their home on a farm east of Martin where they ranched and raised 6 kids.
Over the years he ran a trucking business, but his main occupation and joy was being a cattle order buyer. He traveled 5 days a week (no matter the weather) to local auction barns in South Dakota and Nebraska. He did this for a total of 60 years.
Beef as everyone knew him by, had a life that was filled with family. Whether it be his own or the sale barn gang, he loved them all.
Gerry is survived by his Wife, Carol; Sister-in-Law, DeeAnna Wild (Pat); Son, Tim (Colette); Daughters: Patty Hancock (David); Susan Palmer; Penny McHenry; Tracee Johnson (Mike); Sharla Muhs (Harlan); His Grandchildren: Tonya Benson (Clint); Timberly Palmer (Roy Guptill); Tina Palmer; Taylor Palmer (Stevi Claussen); Kara Jo Hancock; Megan Palmer; Chance Clausen (Stephanie); Mykel McHenry (Charlie); Henry Johnson; Sadee Johnson; Kendra Ringstmeyer (Phil) and 10 Great Grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents- Vernald and Charlotte Palmer.
Services are being held at Martin Livestock in Martin, South Dakota at 10:00, Thursday, January 24, 2019 with Pastor Bill "Doc" Hines officiating. Burial will be at the Martin Community Cemetery.
