Fern Eleson

Fern Ruby Hawthorne Eleson was born on August 8, 1921 and died on December 22, 2017 at the Chadron Community Hospital.
She was born to Frank and Angie Hawthorne at their home south of Hay Springs, Nebraska and was the youngest of nine children: five brothers and 3 sisters.
She attended several country schools during her youth as the family moved several times to different farms.
She graduated from high school in 1938 and attended Chadron State College for one year to get her teaching certificate. Then she taught at district R and one year at Rose Hill country schools.
On August 27, 1941 Fern married Floyd W Eleson and to that union eight children were born: Richard (stillborn), Nancy (Bill Gilbert), Duane (Teckla), Kenneth (Barbara), Kathy (Jerry Scott), Kay (Dan Curtis), Bonnie, and Keven (Laurie).
Fern was well known for her delicious cooking and helping with Bethel Sunday School. She was also a poet and wrote many poems about her family and farm life.
She loved the Lord and has gone to spend eternity with those who had gone first: Floyd, her husband, Nancy, Kathy and Kay and her husband Dan.
She is survived by three sons and one daughter, as well as sixteen grandchildren and thirty-seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
