Eva Clell Reed Hix of Gordon, Nebraska., age 97, passed away on May 20, 2020, at Gordon Countryside Care.
Eva was born on March 17, 1923, in Gordon, Nebraska, to Olin and Cecil Glee Heywood Reed. She grew up along the Niobrara River south of Gordon, attending country school in that area and later attending high school in Gordon, graduating in 1943. She spoke often of fond memories of her childhood days on the river growing up with three brothers and her sister, and of riding to Gordon with her Granddad Heywood with a team and wagon, playing with her friends as he sold his home grown garden and fruit items along with furs he had trapped. Eva was united in marriage on November 26, 1043 to Clifford H. Hix.
Other than a short time in Idaho, Eva spent her years in Gordon helping farm and then helping with bulk plants and service stations for Hix Oil Co. Upon retiring, Eva and Clifford spent ten winters in Arizona. Eva so enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, gardening, her many pets over her lifetime, doing crafts, visiting, and playing cards with her many friends and her special nieces and nephews. Eva was a member of Grace Lutheran and RSVP.
Eva is survived by her sons, Dwight (Kari) of Black Hawk, S.D., Richard (Elizabeth) of Albuquerque, N.M., five grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were husband Clifford, brothers Fay Reed, Richard Reed, Kenneth Hardin, and sister Rebecca Yardley.
The family wishes to thank all of her friends for sharing in her life, and the Gordon Countryside Care staff. Memorial donations can be made to the Grace Lutheran Church or Gordon Countryside Care.
