Emma Elaine Jacobs Obituary
Emma Elaine (Heese) Jacobs, 94, of Martin, SD, died Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Kadoka Nursing Home.
Emma was born on July 25, 1929 in White River, SD to Steve and Anna (Hauf) Heese.
Emma was sister to Norman Heese, Eleanor Wigstone, Edna Beigh, Lloyd Heese, Mary Thomsen and Ramona Herman.
On September 21, 1947 Emma married John Leland Jacobs. They farmed together 7 miles west of Martin. They were married for 69 years.
Emma was a long-time member of Our Redeemers Lutheran Church in Martin, SD. In her later years she was always grateful when good friends would give her a ride to church and lend her a strong arm for support.
She baked and decorated cakes for 40 years for a variety of celebrations and made beautiful wedding cakes for each of her three children.
Emma loved making art in various forms. She proudly displayed a painting she made in 7th grade for which she won a book as a special award. For many years she enjoyed painting. Her artwork is enjoyed by family and friends. The joke was, she would paint on ‘anything that wasn’t nailed down.’
She loved growing flowers, and would reminisce of the days she cared for her large garden.
Emma and Leland loved to dance, and had fond memories of contests and costumes.
Survivors include her 3 children, Carol Solon (and special friend Jesse), Jack (Madeleine) Jacobs and Laura (Richard) Hacker. Seven grandkids and 11 great-grandkids. She is also survived by sisters Mary Thomsen, Martin, SD and Ramona Herman, Benkelman, NE
Preceding her in death are her husband Leland, great-grandson Aiden Solon, son-in-law John Solon, sisters Edna and Eleanor and brothers Norman and Lloyd.
Pall bearers are grandsons Sage Solon, Patrick Solon, AJ Hacker, granddaughters Megan Hacker and Ana Iwanski, and great grandsons Andrew Solon and River Solon.
Services will be Thursday, May 30th at Our Redeemers Lutheran Church in Martin, SD with the Rev. David Young officiating, Burial will be at the Martin cemetery after the service, and a lunch served at church following the service at the cemetery.
