The life of Ellen De Ette (Sorgenson) Zlomke
Ellen was the only child of Thelma (Ballard) Sorgenson and Yance Elbert Sorgenson. She was born July 19, 1933 in Gordon, NE. She passed away September 27, 2020, at Gordon Memorial Hospital
She went through the Gordon School system and graduated high school in 1951. She married her husband Floyd William Zlomke on May 25, 1952 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. They at first lived in a small house south of town for a few years, then in the early 60’s moved to a farm at the west side of town. There Floyd and Ellen raised six children, Mary (Zlomke) Lein, Mark (Moira) Zlomke, Cathy (Kim) DeHart, Judy (Michael) Bowman, and twins Kraig (Yvonne) Zlomke and Kristy (Jean) Winter.
Ellen had a large garden, that she and the children planted, weeded, and harvested. Floyd had the hard part, he kept the garden watered. Many good eats, and great memories came out of that garden. Ellen was very active with her church family. In her earlier years she would sing solos for different occasions. As the children got older, she would help with youth group with things like Easter Sunday Breakfast. She especially enjoyed the Christmas Tea. She will be missed.
When Floyd retired from farming, they moved to town, living on 6th street. Ellen continued to live there after Floyd was placed in the nursing home, and after his passing on August 11, 2010.
Ellen will be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren; Mary’s children; Wade, William and twins Melissa (Sommerville) and Kelissa Lein; Cathy’s children; Chris, Cody, Nick, Lindsay, Dusty Brown, Alicia DeHart, Judy’s children; Jeffrey, Matthew, Langdon Bowman, Kraig’s children; Rich, Bobby, Kristy’s child; Brooke Winter. Several great-grandchildren; Treavar, Koby, Joslin, Madyson, Reagan, Cyrus, Grant, Kolten, Gavin, Lane, Brynley, Keslee, Korbin, Graham and Benson. Ellen enjoyed the company and companionship of her grand and great grandchildren.
