Ed Novak

Edward (Ed) S. Novak of Martin, SD died on July 8, 2018 at Rapid City Regional Hospital due to complications of lung disease.

He was born August 1, 1935 at their home north of Batesland, SD to Ernest and Lillian Novak. He began his farming career as a young boy growing up on the family farm. He attended grade school at Swett, SD, then went on to graduate from Bennett County High School enjoying playing sports all along the way.

On August 11, 1958 he was united in marriage to Sue Jensen of Merriman, NE and from this union three daughters Jean, Kim and Patti and one son Cris was born. He was a very loving and caring husband, father, grandpa and uncle, who enjoyed camping, fishing and just spending time with family and friends.

He was a member of the Batesland Volunteer Fire Department, Nights of Columbus and a board member of the Co-op in Merriman for years.

He was preceded in death by his father Ernie, mother Lillian and brother Leonard.
Survivors include his wife Sue of Martin, SD, three daughters Jean (Mike) Kieffe of Kyle, SD, Kim (Steve) Hines of Spearfish, SD, Patti (Tim) Guptill of Rapid City, SD and one son Cris (Jen) Novak of Spearfish, SD, 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Stacy Kieffe, Zack Kieffe, Corey Hines, Codey Hines, Stephen Trepl and Lance Lintt. Honorary Pallbearers were the Batesland Volunteer Fire Department and all of his family and friends.

A memorial has been established for the Bennett County Home Health Department and donations may be sent in care of Bennett County Funeral Service, PO Box 65 Martin, SD 57551.
