Edward Raymond Moody
Edward Moody, 82, passed away peacefully at his home on August 20, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on January 11, 1937 in Manchester, New Hampshire to parents George Henry Moody and Laura (Ellison) Moody. Ed was number 11 out of 13 children born to this union.
Ed began his military career at the age of 17 when he enlisted in the National Guard. He then joined the Marines and after 3 years found his calling in the Air Force as a jet airplane mechanic for the next 19 years. Ed served his country for 21+ years in both the Vietnam and Korean wars. He retired from the military in 1975 but never lost his love and passion for the fighter jets and planes he worked on. His eyes would light up when looking at his photos of the aircraft he worked on and he could recall every detail about them .
After retiring from the military Ed met Georgia Dirks while she was visiting her brother in Oregon and that brought him here to Crawford. They were married for 15 years until Georgia passed away.
Ed married Elaine Roos on December 26, 1993. They have been blessed with 25 years of marriage, many good times and wonderful memories together.
After his military career Ed worked as a service contractor for Redman Homes, Atlantic Homes, and also for Servicemaster. He was very active in the Crawford Food Pantry and the Harrison Bible Church. Ed loved to hunt and fish and most of all enjoyed preparing his catch for family and friends. Ed was quite a chef and his 4th of July Bar-b-ques were legendary in town with everyone welcome and nobody left hungry. Ed enjoyed people and had a wonderful sense of humor. His generosity was endless and he loved giving to others. He had a huge heart, a brave soul, and that endearing New England accent that made him unforgettable to those who knew and loved him.
Ed is survived by his wife Elaine, children Matt & Bianca Roos of North Platte, Lori & Rusty Riggs, Leslie Anderson, Marty Roos & Annissa Jones, Marv & Sue Dirks, Karen & Mike Mellam of Jacksonville, FL, Charles & Lisa Moody of New Hampshire; siblings, John, Ester and Frank; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial/open house is planned for September 1st, 2019 at 116 Coates in Crawford from 1-5 pm for those who wish to stop by and celebrate Ed with us.
To honor Ed’s wishes the family asks that any memorials be made to the Circle of Light Cancer Foundation or the Crawford Food Pantry.
