Donald F. Peters, 92, of Hay Springs passed away on Oct. 18, 2017 at
Pioneer Manor Nursing Home.
Don was an identical twin son born to Joseph and Catherine Lynch
Peters on July 1, 1925 in Hay Springs. His twin brother Dan came first
on July 1 and Don was just within two minutes of coming on July 2.
Don was the last surviving sibling, he was proceeded in death by
four brothers, George, Charles, Dan and Robert and two sisters: Rosemary
Jaggers and Joann Westcott.
Don lived in Hay Springs all his life. He loved his family, faith,
farming and serving his country. After attending Hay Springs High School
he joined his father Joseph on the farm until 1944 when he entered the
Navy and served in the South Pacific area. Don returned home and again
farmed his father's place.
He met the love of her life, Donna Finkey, at a dance in the
basement of the Rushville Theatre called the "Slip & Fall with Bud
Paul". They were married Sept. 8, 1948 and were married 68 years. To
this union, four children were born, Gary, Carolyn, Jolene and Steve.
Don and Donna raised their children on the family farm on Mirage Flats.
Don was a member of the American Legion Post 239 and St.
Columbkille Catholic Church
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017 at
St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Hay Springs with Father Joseph Joseph
officiating. Burial is at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Hay Springs.
A Vigil is at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 23, 2017 at the St.
Columbkille Catholic Church.
Don is survived by his son Gary and wife Marcine Peters of Bedford,
Texas; daughter Carolyn and husband Art Lipps of Hay Springs; 11
grandchildren - Michelle and Eddie Stephens, Karla Balli, Cammie and
Trent Tobiasson, Lindsay Lipps, Chris Speirs, Mandy and Darren McNamer,
Brad Lipps, Brianna Lipps, Zane Lipps, Josh and Sara Peters, Brandi and
Brandon McKee; and his Aunt Leona Pisacka and sister-in-law Shirley
Peters and brother-in-law Bud Finkey. He is also survived by 16
great-grandkids, son-in-law Wally Lipps, former daughter-in-law Cindy
Peters.
Don was proceeded in death by his wife Donna, parents and siblings,
daughter Jolene Lipps, son Steven Peters and grandson Zane Lipps.
A memorial has been established for Pioneer Manor Nursing Home
addition. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Drabbels Mortuary, PO Box
443, Hay Springs, NE 69347.
