Charles Richard (Dick) Kingsbury Sr. Charles Richard Kingsbury Sr., 93, of Martin, SD passed away at home May 28, 2015. He was born July 24, 1921 in Edgerton, MN to Searl and Jessie (Woods) Kingsbury. He moved with his parents to Bennett County in 1929 where he attended Bennett County schools. Charles attended Chadron State Teachers College where he earned his degree. June 11, 1941 Charles married Jacquline Smith. He enlisted in the Army Airforce October 19, 1942 to serve as an Airplane Mechanic. He was honorably discharged in October 1943. Together Charles and Jacquie had three children Karen (Clayton) Nielson, Kimberly, ID. Dorothy (John) Larabee Martin, SD, and Charles Kingsbury Jr. Martin, SD. Charles and Jacqueline farmed south of Martin for 25 years. They then moved to town where he worked for Blackpipe State Bank for three years. Then Charles was appointed Postmaster in Martin where he served for 20 years before retiring in 1982. Charles was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed fly fishing, golfing and gardening. He was also a lifetime member of American Legion Post 240. Charles served as a board member on the Bennett County Commercial Club, Mason's, HUD Board and Bennett County School board during his lifetime. The last several years of his life were closely shared with his grandson Matthew Kingsbury. He was preceded in death in 1968 by Jacqueline. Charles married Annette (Nettie) Kriz in 1969 and had one step-son Bob Kriz. Nettie passed away after 14 years of marriage in 1984. Charles met Florence Spencer in 1986, she passed away in 1993. Charles is survived by his three children Karen, Dorothy, and Charles; seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday June 1, 2015 from 6-8pm at Bennett County Funeral Home, Main Street. Services will be held June 2, 2015 at 10:00 am at the New American Legion with Chaplain Howard Link officiating. Burial will follow at the Martin Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Buddy Bolzer, Tom Sterkel, Avery May, Jay Nielson, Kevin Kern and Joe Kosmicki. Bennett County Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
