She was employed by the Chadron State College for 21 years and enjoyed a sponsored overseas field trip (the college students called her “Grandma”) to England, France, Wales and Scotland. Going to the top of the Eiffel Tower was a great experience.

On a trip to Washington D.C. she saw the Vietnam Wall. While in the area, she visited the “Eternal Flame” of President Kennedy. And on her visit to New York she saw the Statue of Liberty and took a side trip to Ottawa and Montreal, Canada as well.

Her husband William died May 13, 1977. He had been employed as a heavy equipment operator at Fort Robinson during the terrible 1949 blizzard and was later employed by the State of Nebraska Highway Department of Roads in Chadron, Nebraska.
