Carol Joy (Callaham) Witt Crossman was born to Emery (Bud) and Helen (Childs) Callaham on March 12, 1936 in Gering, NE. She spent her early years in the valley, and graduated from Banner County High School in 1954. She married Gerald Witt on June 5, 1955. They lived on the Witt family ranch in rural Sioux County and to this union was born four children: Gene Alan, Gary Lee, Michael Ray and Lucinda Ann. They worked together on the family ranch for many years and as time went by, Carol began to work as a cook at Ft. Robinson, and various restaurants and the nursing home in Crawford. �½�½In the early 1980's, due to Jerry's failing health, they moved from the ranch and eventually settled in Hot Springs, SD near the VA Hospital. In March of 1991, Carol lost her beloved husband of 35 years. Carol then settled back in Gering, NE and worked as a cook at the Scottsbluff County Jail, retiring in 2007. �½�½In 1998 she married Bill Crossman. They enjoyed traveling and seeing friends and family until Bill's death in 2004. In 2012, due to failing health, Carol sold her house in Gering and moved to Crawford to be closer to her kids. In needing more care, she was moved to nursing home care and was at Golden Living Center in Scottsbluff when she was called home on January 19, 2016. She is survived by her four children: Gene Witt of Scottsbluff, NE; Gary (Bev) Witt of Crawford, NE; Mike (Cheryl) Witt of Merriman, NE; and Cyndee (Mike) Johnson of Wasilla, AK., her brothers Floyd (Bud) and Sherrie Callaham of Worland, WY and Harry and Mary Callaham of White City, KS, sister Karla Adams of Crawford, NE and step sister Denise (Steve) Denison of Eaton, CO., seven grandchildren, three step grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
