Byron "Butch" Brown was born September 15, 1945 in Rushville, NE to Alvin and Eva Mae (Loomis) Brown. He was raised on his family's ranch south of Martin with his 3 brothers and 2 sisters. He attended LaCreek School and Bennett County High School graduating in 1963. After high school he attended the South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City on a football scholarship, graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1967. He was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity where he made many lifelong friends. After college he went into the US Army serving 1 tour of duty in Vietnam. After getting out of the Army Butch lived in Green Bay, WI, and Phoenix, AZ before moving to Alaska. While in Alaska he helped build the Alaska Pipeline. In 1983 Butch returned to SD to live and work on his mother and step-fathers ranch near Norris and eventually he moved into town to live with his mother. Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Eva Mae, step-father John Linenbrink, brother Glen and wife Rosemary, brother Aaron, sister Joyce and husband Delmar and sister Joan and husband Ken, his grandparents, and numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by his daughter Chelsi Brown of Martin, brother Vernon (Sandi) Brown of Anchorage, AK, nieces and nephews, Rich (Leslie) Toczek, Jolene (Ken) Donovan, Bob (Tami) Toczek all of Martin, Delmarie Toczek, Aaron (Shannon) Brown of Rapid City, Patrick (Tanya) Kosmicki of Hermosa, Debbie Shaffer of Lynnwood, WA and Steve Shaffer of Greensboro, NC.
