Gordon

Boyd Egli, 85, of Gordon passed away on Sunday April 28, 2019. Boyd Virgil Egli was born October 10, 1933 to Ann H. (Kime) and Johnny Egli at their home south of Gordon.

He graduated from Gordon High School in the early 50’s. He served his country as a mechanic in Germany, at the end of World War II from 1956 to 1958. He was an active member of the Gordon American Legion. Soon after discharge he began working for Teledyne on a seismograph crew. During this time, he traveled the world, seeing England, Libya, France and countless other countries.

In 1964 he met Jo Ellen Garrett in Las Vegas, NV. They were married shortly thereafter. They had two children, Cori and Glenna. Boyd, Jodie and Cori traveled the U.S. as Boyd continued his work with Teledyne. Then, in 1974, they purchased the Egli family farm and made their permanent home there. Glenna was born shortly after they moved to Gordon.

He was employed at several different businesses in Gordon, primarily as a mechanic. He ran a small herd of cattle during this time. He particularly enjoyed cussing out all the other farm animals on the place. He also worked for local farmers. His work ethic was second to none.

Boyd enjoyed his garden and sharing its bounty with friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed playing bridge and cribbage, bird watching, and taking care of his farm. He was well known for his sense of humor and quick wit. He dearly loved his grandchildren Jessica, Eli and Aevyn. He loved to tell them jokes, share his knowledge, and teach them to play cribbage.

Boyd will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Dorla Swick and JoAnn Benson.

He leaves behind his sister Clyda (Larry) Elginer of Pagosa Springs, CO; daughters Cori (Larry) Hastings of Cheyenne, WY and Glenna (Lyle) Sherfey of Angora, NE; 3 grandchildren Jessica of York, NE and Eli and Aevyn of Angora; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends and family Lareen and Joe Rains, Darcie and Austin Forster and children, Frank and Ronnie Ferguson, Norma Burnham, Doc Panzer and other bridge partners, and many other friends.

Graveside memorial services with Military Honors will be held Thursday May 2, 2019, 10:00 AM at Mt. Hope Cemetery south of Gordon. A gathering of family and friends for a celebration of life will follow at the Gordon American Legion.
